Arsenal stars Hector Bellerin, Aaron Ramsey and Petr Cech dig in as they help plant trees at the training place to help the environment

ARSENAL stars Hector Bellerin, Aaron Ramsey and Petr Cech dug in as they helped spruce up their training base with new trees… all for a great cause.

The Gunners trio teamed up with Octopus Energy to plant 100 new trees in Colney Wood.

The wood stunt builds on the success of last year’s programme, supported by Arsenal, where 2,000 trees were planted across 50 UK schools.

Octopus Energy teamed up with Arsenal to push towards their goal of global sustainability and better air quality for the next generation and local communities.

Arsenal “went green” with Octopus Energy last year – saving enough carbon dioxide to fill the Emirates Stadium FOUR TIMES over since.

On their day planting trees, Bellerin said: “It’s important for us to leave the planet as clean as we can, and it’s positive to take these steps.

We’ve helped to plant trees, and I think it’s important. Arsenal being a massive platform, with loads of fans around the world, this is a good way to encourage.

“It’s the little things like this that you can do – little by little – that makes a big improvement.”

Ramsey added: “So many football clubs have massive influence on people around the world and footballers are children’s icons.

“It’s so important for us to help the environment as much as we can. We’ve done a fair bit of damage to it so far, and we need to come together to make it a better place.”

Cech also said: “The planting of the trees will not make a huge difference now but if you can influence them everybody does their bit then we can start changing for good.”

Meanwhile, Octopus Energy CEO Greg Jackson added: “We’re delighted to continue our partnership with the very first Premier League side to make the move to 100 per cent renewable energy.

“It’s fitting to plant Colney Wood and be able to extend carbon offsetting at Arsenal with Bellerin, Cech and Ramsey, planting alongside the next generation.”
