Ashley Young has been BANNED for three games by the FA

Ashley Young will not want to see Jose Mourinho this morning.

Last night the FA announced the Man United will be banned for three games for a completely unnecessary elbow during the 0-0 draw against Southampton.

You might expect something like this from a player in the run up to Christmas to get some time off but this was just mindless.

And Mourinho will be rightly furious that he won’t be able to call on Young’s services for two crucial Premier League games and an FA Cup match.

Young will miss the New Year’s trip to Everton, a home tie with Derby in the cup and a visit from Stoke in the league.

Man United slipped to third after their third draw in a row over the festive period and are now 15 points behind leaders Man City.

The converted wing back should have been sent off for elbowing Dusan Tadic as a corner was delivered.

Both players were jostling by the goal line and Young looked at the referee twice before he struck Tadic with an elbow to the midriff.

To be fair to Tadic there wasn’t much of a reaction from him and Young had made sure the ref couldn’t see it.

Liverpool will demand ‘astronomical’ fee for Philippe Coutinho after Nike blunder Andros Townsend’s miss against Manchester City will make you weep Man United hope ‘agent’ Paul Pogba can persuade Paulo Dybala to join them But now he has received his comeuppance as the FA had to deal out a similar punishment to that of Dele Alli for his dig on West Brom’s Claudio Yacob.

Now Mourinho will have to rely on Matteo Darmian to deputise as Antonio Valencia is out with a hamstring injury.

Maybe he should spend more on replacements?
